We Have Turned on Nature's Doomsday Machine

In addition to releasing vast amounts of carbon dioxide into the Earth's atmosphere, human-caused Climate Change has also triggered the release of the 10,000 billion tons of methane presently frozen in the Arctic Circle. Methane is twenty times more destructive to the environment than carbon dioxide. Each year, the amount of this gas being released is increasing.

Unless this self-expanding cycle is reversed within the next five to ten years, the rate of release will escalate very rapidly to the level where it will become un-stoppable. If we do not take action intentionally designed to stop this cycle, the entire 10,000 billion tons of methane presently frozen in the Arctic Circle will automatically be released into the atmosphere. The environment will be drastically altered.

The Earth’s temperature will rise about eighteen degrees Fahrenheit causing most large life forms on the entire planet to become extinct.

The ocean level will rise by about forty feet forcing billions of people out of their homes.

Glaciers and mountain snow caps will disappear leaving over thirty percent of the world’s population without fresh water in the dry season.

Billions of people will die of environmental exposure or starvation.

Dozens of other highly destructive changes will occur. The consequences will be devastating, deadly, and irreversible!

If you think that Global Warming is not happening, is it possible that you are wrong? Have you ever been wrong? When you were being wrong, did you know you were being wrong? Is it possible that you could be wrong right now?

Is it prudent to bet the future of humanity on your personal belief that Global Warming is not happening? Is it prudent to bet your children's lives, your grandchildren's lives, the lives of over six billion other humans, and the lives of most other life forms on the planet?

And one other thing to consider -- if you are wrong, your mistake will not be correctable ! If you work with those of us who are concerned about Global Climate Change and we turn out to be wrong, correcting our error ten years from today will be simple. But if you bet that Global Warming is not real and you are wrong, that error is not correctable. If we do nothing today, several competent scientists say that in ten years, the Global Warming process will be so strong that it will be unstoppable. If that happens billions of humans will experience horrific grief and misery. Millions will die prematurely. Is this the kind of chance you want to take?

What if the thousand of experts who have studied the climate change problem are right? Have you intently studied this issue? Are you basing our conclusion on evidence that you have examined? Are you simply basing your conclusions on what your political and/or religious leaders have told you? Are you basing your conclusions on what you've heard form the mass media which is owned and controlled by anti-environment interests. The Rapture is not going to save you! Here's Why²

For those of you who believe you are at the effect of the tradition Christian God, let us remind you that God will still do whatever He intends to do, so if you work with us in Reversing Global Climate Chang and The Rapture² is real, you still win. But if you ignore us and bet everything on " the rapture" (including you children's lives, your grandchildren's live and the lives of about six billion other humans) and you're wrong, you lose BIG TIME!

If you support "the rapture" and it doesn't show up, you end up living or, more likely, prematurely dying on a planet that you helped or allowed to be irreversibly damaged. You children and grand children will either hate you, think you were a damned fool, or both. The planet will be dramatically altered, and those changes could trigger the death of most of the world's plants and animals and most if not all humans, including your children and grandchildren. Is this the kind of bet you want to make.

Why isn't "Resident" Bush² leading the charge to Reverse Global Warming? Today, the evidence pointing to human-caused, major, global-level, destructive changes is overwhelming and undeniable. Anybody who looks at the evidence can easily see that we have A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM. And a very short time in which to solve it! So why is he ignoring the problem and promoting exactly the opposite? Why is he promoting environmental destruction? Why is he sentencing his own grandchildren to grief, and misery and possible early death?

When you examine his behavior, there are the only two possible conclusion that make any sense of what he is doing. He's either literally insane or he's a born again believer in The Rapture.² If he really is, as he claims to be, a "born again" believer in the fundamentalist version of Christianity, then, by his actions, we can clearly see that he's secretly promoting death and destruction in order to make The Rapture arrive more quickly.

If you think this is way out, you are herby challenged to: 1) Offer another explanation for his highly destructive and dysfunctional behavior, 2) Examine what he is doing, ' and 3) Ask him point blank in a public setting, "Do you believe in The Rapture? If you can't personally ask that question, find someone who can. Let's find out the truth!

Global Warning is not real. This is just another tree-hugging hippie trying to scare us into giving him money.

It's too scary. I don't want to think about it.

It's OK, The Rapture is coming soon, and God will take care of me.

The Government will take care of this.

There's plenty of time. We'll deal with this later.

It's impossible to stop Global Warming. It's inevitable. There's nothing I can do about this, so I'll just go about my business as usual.

Here's a quirky thing about human nature -- most humans tend to ignore warning signs until the time to act has long past. The only difference between the signs of Global Warming and other past warning signs is that ignoring this truth will be devastating, disastrous, and deadly for billion of people -- that's billions, not millions.

Let me guide you on an imaginary journey. The date is April 14, 1912 . You and I are passengers on the Titanic. The unsinkable ship is on it's maiden voyage from Liverpool, England to New York, U.S.A.

As the daylight fades into night you notice that the ship is still traveling at full speed ahead. It did the same thing last night too, but something is different and you can't figure out why this evening you feel so strange. You go to the bow of the ship and notice men shining spotlights into the open water ahead. The lights shine for only a short distance into the blackness ahead. Simple logic tells you that the ship is so big that significantly altering its course or stopping its movement takes miles. If an iceberg appeared ahead in the ships path, hitting it would be unavoidable.

You attempt to go to the ship's control room, but are turned away. You ask the guard, "Why are we traveling blind, full speed ahead, at night, in iceberg infested waters? The answer you get is that the captain wants to get to New York in record time.

More than a bit concerned you return and tell me what's going on and how you are feeling. We talk for a moment and then you go back to toward the bow and stare into the tiny patch of light in the ocean of blackness ahead. As you stand there, leaning against the railing, staring at nothing, you suddenly you notice a woman standing beside you. Your body startles in it's surprise. You turn to her and ask, "Where did you come from.?" She ignores the question and says, "If the ship continues as it's now traveling it will hit an iceberg so hard that the damage will cause the ship to sink. You and most of the others on board will be dead by sunrise. If you ever want to see your children again, you must slow the ship down."

You look out again into the patch of light, and then you turn back to her, but she's no longer there. She has vanished as mysteriously as she appeared. With trembling hands, you grasp the cold railing and think about what you have just heard. Where is the woman? Was she real? Am I crazy? They told us that this ship was unsinkable. This can't be real! But what if it is. What do I do now?

Let me give you the same set of conditions in a different context:

You stepped onto spaceship Earth a few years ago with the intention of having a safe journey through life. Then out of nowhere, some stranger tells you that the spaceship you are on is about to crash into an iceberg of ignorance and apathy. He tells you this story:

On a global level, you are all riding a cosmic version of the Titanic. Symbolically speaking, you are traveling at full speed, in the dark, in iceberg-filled waters, with the captain and all the officers asleep in their cozy little cabins of illusion. And what have they inspired the rest of us to do while they sleep? Spend our time and energy fighting over the deck chairs. Why do we go along their instructions and fight instead of cooperate? Because, like most humans who live their lives as mindless sheep, we simply following someone else's instructions. It's also the accepted, cultural norm. We were trained to fight by people who believed that fighting was more productive than cooperating.

The so-called leaders also implanted this type of message in your mind. If you're not into fighting personally, you can listen to the news about the latest war or disaster, or accident, or murder, and the like. Or you can divert you attention by watching sports like baseball, basketball, football, soccer, and hockey. Or listen to the latest gossip about what this or that celebrity did or didn't do.

Then he tells you that if humans continue full speed ahead in the callous, mindless destruction of the Earth's life support system, you, your fellow passengers, and all your descendents will all be dead by the end of this century. For humans in the future, in there are any, life as humans know it today will cease to exist.

What are you going to do today -- right here -- right now?

Denial is no longer an option.

Survival dictates that we think and act "outside-the-box" of conventional behavior. We cannot solve our collective, social problems with either "More of the Same" or "The Same Thing Harder." A new, mutually cooperative approaches to our collective social problems is required, and the sooner we wake up to this, the less painful the transition will be.
