In the film, Gere plays  a wealthy businessman bent on taking over another man's corporation  using the common business practice called  "An Outsider's Takeover."  
This technique is the key to saving the last of the Ancient Redwood Forests.   

In the film, Gere's character's intention was to buy a particular company's stock until he held a controlling interest in that corporation.   Then he intended to dismantle the company and sell the pieces.  

Our intention is significantly different.   Our intention is  to have our friends and associates purchase enough stock in the corporations that are cutting the Virgin Redwood Forests, (one company  at a time) until collectively, we hold a controlling interest in the company.   (On the site we have a page answering this question:  Where Will the Money Come From? 

At that point, we will immediately  stop all cutting in the company-owned or controlled Virgin Redwood Forests  and in all its other virgin  forests of other species, as well.   Second, rather than dismantling it, we'll  re-organize the company so that everybody wins, including the employees, the management, the stock holders, the redwood forests, the billions of life forms that live in  those forests, and you, your grandchildren, and Sacred Mother Earth, Herself.    

All virgin forests, (redwoods  or other species)  will be sold to conservatory organizations. Once the forests are safe, the stockholders can, if they choose, sell their stock and get their supporting/invested money back.   We will then move on to the next offending lumber company.

This may sound impossible, but it only sounds impossible because nobody has done it yet.   If we had the financial clout of Bill Gates, Warren  Buffet, or literally thousands of other super-wealthy people, we could simply buy controlling interest in the companies (one at a time).   The entire process would then be relatively simple.    Since we don't, at the moment, have influence over that much money, we'll offer a little ingenuity.   

First, Consider This:  Money is not the goal.   Voting power is what we  are seeking.   We're looking for voting rights at each company's stock holders' meetings.   Second, the only thing really different and new about an outsiders taking, over a corporation is what we intend to do once we are in control.
