A Reality Check

One of the major requirements for both The Transformation of Human Consciousness  and the Reversal of Global Warming 'is clear understanding of the relationship between present-day religious beliefs and what the evidence tells us about the relationship between the non-physical universal reality and the physical universe we live in.   This page is a brief introduction to the understanding of that relationship.  

What is God?   

Before we can offer any meaningful answers to questions about God or make any useful statements or have a reasonably meaningful discussion about religion, we need to define what we mean when we say, "God."    

Your definition:   As an analogy, suppose we were to have a discussion about Santa Clause and you were defining Santa Clause as  --  that invisible spirit of joy  -- as that romantic, beautiful, bountiful Spiritual Being of Love and Light that every Christmas season that gladdens the hearts of children all across the globe. 

My definition:   And suppose I were defining Santa Clause as a real, live, physical person with magical powers who lives at north pole on planet Earth.   Could we have a meaningful discussion about Santa Clause?   No, because we are referring to two very different characters with the same name.  

So then,  to what are you referring when you say the word  "God?"  Do you point to the sky and think of an angry, vengeful, fickle, superhuman being sitting on throne in some magical place above the clouds of planet Earth called heaven?   Or do you think of the infinite, unknown, unknowable source of everything?

Are You Inside or Outside of God?  

The second major factor in discussing religion is to answer the question,  "Are you inside or outside of God?   In all of human history, there never has been and probably never will be another distinction as important as:  "Are you inside or outside of God?"  This belief, no matter which perspective one believes, is the underlying context which dominates and controls vast amounts of human behavior.

Beliefs not Facts:   

The third major factor to consider in discussing religion is that the only thing we can say with certainty about God, is that whatever it is, it has a profound affect upon us.   Beyond that, what can we say about God with provable certainty?   When someone speaks about God, they are referring to that unknown and unknowable source of all that transcends understanding.   Thus, they tell us absolutely nothing about what God actually is or isn't.   They are, instead, expressing what they believe about God.    Even atheists who believe that there is no such thing as a source or a creator are only expressing an opinion / belief about God.

What If . . .    

What if everybody's truth is correct, but only within it's own context.   What if all truths are only part truths?    What if  some of the additional and previously-missing pieces of information were to be added to each truth?   How would that change the meaning of present-day religious beliefs?  

What if whatever it is that we call "God" is the ultimate mystery of life?   What if we really don't know what God is, or how He/She/It  functions.   What if life doesn't begin at conception, at birth or at any other place?   What if birth and death are life simply changing form and moving into a different dimension of reality?   What if there are dimensions where time and space, as we know them, don't exist?   What if the universe is filled with mysteries about which we are profoundly ignorant?   What if the origin of life and the consciousness behind that origin are unknown and unknowable?    

What if there actually is  a difference between reality and what we believe about reality?   What if we really don't know all those things we claim to know?   

And regardless of what you or I or anybody else believes about whatever it is we call "God," The Source of the Universe is whatever it is, it functions however it functions, and it remains the world's greatest unsolved mystery.   So the next time you hear someone saying that they know something about God, particularly if they claim to know something  that you don't, simple smile, excuse yourself, and leave as quickly as possible.
